Agility

Agility training can be a great deal of fun to do with your dog. These 6 week courses will help your dog to build confidence. It will also allow you to strengthen your handler/dog bond by doing something joyful and rewarding.

To be eligible to join the pre-agility class at Joseph's Training School, your dog must:

• Be in good health with all current vaccinations, be flee free and be physically able to climb and jump.
• Be of good behavior, be non aggressive with other dogs or with people.
• For Basic Agility your dog must have completed Pre-Agility or the equivalent and preferably be able to perform off-lead recalls.

Curriculum Objectives:

You will begin to build the foundation of skills necessary for agility competition. You and your dog will be introduced to the standard agility equipment as used in competition. You will learn appropriate and safe ways to use the equipment. You will also learn to do targeting with your dog which will help to teach your dog about the various contract areas on certain obstacles. In a positive and fun atmosphere, you and your dog will bond as a team based on trust and respect. Some of the fun things:

• A-Frame
• Tire
• Sea Saw
• Pause Table
• Weave Poles

Once you and your dog successfully complete these agility training class, you will be ready to enter a pre-competition level agility training class.                                                                       

What to bring to class:

• Comfortable, Flat Shoes for Running
• Six Foot Leash and Flat or Training Collar
• Target, Clicker, Tug Toy or Ball

For Rewards:

• Soft small Treats (ex. Hot Dogs, Cheese Sticks, Cheese Balls) - cut into small, bite size pieces before class. You need a yummy treat to reward the dog quickly and often

• Toy(s) so that you can reward the dog with Play
